I. YUGEN — a profound and mysterious sense of the beauty of the universe, characterised by a feeling of awe in the face of that which is vast, hidden and inexpressible.

II. MONO NO AWARE — an awareness of the beauty of things and, at the same time, of their impermanence. The gentle melancholy evoked by the passing of time and the inevitability of the end.

III. KOMOREBI — sunlight filtering through the leaves of trees.

IV. TSUNDOKU — the habit of buying books and leaving them unread, hoarding them for future reading.

V. KOI NO YOKAN — the feeling, when meeting someone for the first time, that there is a possibility of falling in love with that person.
